Book description:

Philippa Gregory, “the queen of royal fiction” (USA Today) Presents the first of a new series set amid the deadly feuds of England known as the Wars of the Roses.
Brother turns on brother to win the ultimate prize, the throne of England, in this dazzling account of the wars of the Plantagenets. They are the claimants and kings who ruled England before the Tudors, and now Philippa Gregory brings them to life through the dramatic and intimate stories of the secret players: the indomitable women, starting with Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen.

The White Queen tells the story of a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition who, catching the eye of the newly crowned boy king, marries him in secret and ascends to royalty. While Elizabeth rises to the demands of her exalted position and fights for the success of her family, her two sons become central figures in a mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the missing princes in the Tower of London whose fate is still unknown. From her uniquely qualified perspective, Philippa Gregory explores this most famous unsolved mystery of English history, informed by impeccable research and framed by her inimitable storytelling skills.

With The White Queen, Philippa Gregory brings the artistry and intellect of a master writer and storyteller to a new era in history and begins what is sure to be another bestselling classic series from this beloved author.

About Belleza

I got the name Bella because my grandfather called me Suzabell. I use that as a username and my friends on the site started calling me Bella. Thus was born: Bella Foxx's Life, now known as "just a city girl" since I have made the big jump from the country and am now living in the City, UES. I like to make jewelry (check out my blog "Bella is creative" started April 17, 2008) and write. I like to do cross stitch and knit. I sew, I don't really enjoy it, but I enjoy the clothes. I like to read the Bible, books, magazines, online newspaper articles, blogs, jokes on candy wrappers, ads on the subway, billboards, backs of food boxes, lists of ingredients and recipes, cleaning directions, sayings on shirts. I post my reviews on "Just a girl, living, reading, watching, and writing", on Shelfari, Library Thing and Goodreads.. I am allergic to practically everything: grass, trees, weeds, animal dander, dust, mold, wheat, apples, nuts, fish and coconut. The fish and coconut are so serious I carry an Epi-pen and wear a Medic-Alert bracelet. And last but not least. I love the Yankees.

  37. Why I want to enter this contest:

I’ve read a few other stories about the War of the Roses, and I’d love to hear Ms. Gregory’s version of this historical (& familial) feud.

Historical fiction is a genre that I’m becoming increasingly addicted to, and I count Gregory as one of my favorite authors in this area (along with Anya Seton and Sharon Kay Penman).

    Thanks!

  64. Jaime says:

    Count me in!

Why would I like to win this?

I am a HUGE Philippa Gregory fan and I am excited that she has gone to the time period BEFORE the Tudors. I am excited for the Plantegenet series. I don’t feel they have received enough attention. Well, besides the Princes in The Tower. Anya Seton’s Katherine is set during that time frame and does have an affair with Richard of York. I believe. Don’t quote me on who her lover is. LOL. I also love that the main protagonist is Elizabeth Wydeville, who believe it or not, was not part of any royal family. Pretty awesome, if you ask me. Her sons were allegedly murdered by their uncle.

Well, you get the idea… Count me in! I so need this one. lol

  65. Joni K says:

Yes, I want to enter the giveaway for The White Queen!!

Two reasons for reading this book:

Thanks for the chance and opportunity!

I’ve enjoyed Philippa Gregory’s historicals ever since I read her Wideacre series (Wideacre, The Favored Child, Meridon) and then I read The Boleyn Inheritance.
